Month 2

4/7/04 - Month 2 photos

Betsy back on writing duty here. Well, I think we are able to call ourselves parents now. We are settling into routines and aren’t just “surviving.” That is what those first few weeks felt like.  We were just trying to outlast Carter.  David’s memory is already fading for how bad it was, but mine hasn’t quite faded yet. Which is funny as my memory of labor has faded, and David still remembers it well!

Carter is growing every day. His new skills are lifting his head and finding his hands with his mouth almost easily.  That was a funny skill to watch develop as he would open his mouth and then swing his hands up - often hitting himself rather soundly in the nose, chin, cheek, forehead area.  He kept at it though and although it still looks rather uncoordinated, the goal is achieved.  He has started swinging at objects, but we aren’t absolutely positive he is doing it consciously yet.

Carter’s 2 month checkup went well, he weighed just under 13 pounds, so he is in the 75th percentile for his age. He is measuring short (25th percentile), so I guess I shouldn’t expect a 6 foot adult! The doctor was pleased with his growth. The shots were hard to watch, but he got over it soon enough.

I’m doing well.  I go to a Baby and Me group every week and I’m going to start some other baby type activities when we get back from our road trip to California (which we leave for tomorrow.)

David is doing great.  He just finished the woodworking class I gave him for his birthday and has been working on some projects for me. (storage units that are kid friendly)

Our stream of visitors looks like it has dried up (very sad), so now we will have to go see people ourselves. California this month, then Minneapolis in June and Anchorage in July. My mother is going to sneak in one more visit in May though.

We enjoyed having Ruthy and “her David” here.  Unfortunately we took NO pictures of them.  David is a professional photographer and I think we felt out classed! We visited the Woodburn Tulip Festival when they were here.  18 acres of tulips in full bloom - check out the pictures below.

Until next time. Betsy

So you promise to pay for our retirement with your pro baseball player's salary?

Isn't perspective wonderful?

Could you sleep like this?

Can you find Waldo?
